Tyton-Sit VIPER®

Check your restrained gasket has been tested in accordance with EN545:2010 as well as EN545:2006 – Our Tyton-Sit VIPER® does!

These are self-anchored joints designed for underground applications which eliminate the need for thrust blocks at changes in direction, making them particularly suitable for difficult or unsuitable ground conditions such as soft ground or subsidence-prone areas; where space is limited such as steep inclines, urban areas or under rivers.

Our Tyton-Sit Viper® restrained gasket solution is specifically designed to meet the requirements of BS EN 545:2010 Ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints for water pipelines.

One of the key differences between EN545:2006 and EN545:2010 was the reduction in pipe wall thicknesses. This presented a significant challenge for existing self-restraining gaskets which were designed to work using the older, thicker-walled pipe from the EN545:2006 standard.

What is a Tyton-SIT VIPER®?

VIP is recognised as the leading global manufacturer of self-restrained gaskets for ductile iron pipe and as a result, our Tyton-SIT VIPER® gaskets are selected as original equipment by many of the leading global producers.

Each design has been thoroughly tested in accordance with EN545:2010/ EN598:2007 and our Tyton-SIT VIPER® gaskets fully comply with the requirements of BS6920 as well as holding numerous International potable water approvals including WRAS material approval at temperatures of up to 60º.

  • Concrete thrust blocks are often impractical due to unstable ground (i.e. groundwater)
  • Contractors/ Engineers use far more concrete than the design stipulates “just in case”
  • Difficulty pouring in freezing conditions
  • Environmentally unfriendly; the cement industry is responsible for 5% of worldwide man made carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Expensive to dispose of soil matter removed from trench
  • Impractical and can cause disruption in city centre excavations
  • In congested trenches, not always possible to pour thrust blocks without interfering with other utilities

Benefits of the Tyton-SIT VIPER VS Concrete Thrust Blocks

Benefits of the Tyton-SIT VIPER VS External Mechanical Restraint System

External Mechanical Restraint Joint
  • External mechanical restraint systems cost considerably more
  • More difficult to install as access needed to reach bolts beneath the joint
  • Entire assembly needs to be protected from corrosion
  • Larger trench needed compared with Tyton-SIT VIPER®
  • Installation time of Tyton-SIT VIPER® typically 35% of the time taken to install External Mechanical Restraint
  • Quicker installation
  • Better for the environment
  • Less disruption
  • Lower installation costs
  • No large excavation required

FKM/VITON Chemical & Heat Resistant

Specialist materials

FKM / VITON Chemical and Heat Resistant

VIP also manufacture the Tyton-SIT VIPER in FKM/VITON material.

FKM is used where there is a possibility of  contact with a wide chemicals, or in applications where temperatures exceed 60°c for prolonged periods of time.

A full list of chemical compatability is available on request.

LAB 1

IN-HOUSE LABORATORY & TEST FACILITIES

Tests are undertaken on both the uncured rubber compound prior to manufacture with further tests on the final product which check for:

  • Rheometry
  • Hardness
  • Tensile strength
  • Elongation
  • Compression set
  • Dimensional checks
  • Stress relaxation

Completed gaskets are finally checked on specially designed jigs to ensure they are the correct dimensions for the corresponding segment shape.
