PIPE LUBRICANT

A pipe jointing compound based on a vegetable soap lubricant for use with water pipes and mains.

It has been specially formulated to enable the easy and speedy fixing of sealing joints on nearly all pipe materials including rubber, plastic ,clay ,cast iron and concrete.

This particular lubricant has the following benefits:

Typically used with plastic pipe material for drinking water installations it is a liquid form of vegetable-based technology which easily washes away once the pipe has been securely connected and fixed in position. The liquid consistency ensures the suitability for jointing drinking water installations with hard to reach areas.

CLAY PIPE SEALS

VIP have developed a range of specially formulated EPDM and NBR (Nitrile) compounds to suit modern clay pipe applications, all of which are manufactured in accordance with EN681-1 and meet or exceed the requirements of EN295-1.

Clay Pipes

VIP provide a range of seals for jointing vitrified clay pipe from the standard spigot and socket design to seals incorporated into plastic sleeves for jointing straight wall pipe. In addition, we manufacture a range of seal profiles for use within steel collar pipe joints. Moulded seals are available in diameters of up to DN2200 whilst extruded seals can be manufactured to virtually any diameter the client requires.

GRP PIPE SEALS

VIP-Polymers offer a range of seals for GRP pipes suitable for a wide range of applications.

VIP-Polymers GRP pipe seals can be supplied in a number of stock elastomeric compounds designed to comply with the latest EU and worldwide regulations. Where a suitable compound is not readily available to facilitate bespoke compound development:

Unlike with most other pipe materials, there is currently no international standard for defining the shape of the groove in Structured Wall Pipes (SWP). Stages in the SWP sealing process:

  1. Drawings received from customer of the pipe groove and bell.
  2. If no existing seal is suitable, we will design and make an offer based on supplied annual volume information.
  3. Once design is agreed and tested using FEA, we will perform physical tests on pipe and bell supplied by the customer.
  4. After testing programme is complete, the customer approves the seal design.

PVC Pressure pipe for potable water

We make seals to customers; specific requirements including locked-in seals incorporating our proprietary Viploc™ design. This features a locking ring which holds the seal in a groove within the pipe. The pipe is belled over the seal during production with no chance of the seal becoming dislodged during assembly.

Double Fin Sliding Seal

Effective under both internal and external pressure conditions, our range of single and double fin sliding seals are available in diameters ranging from DN300. Compression of the seal occurs when the spigot is inserted to the socket creating a positive seal.

As well as excellent distribution of traverse shear loads, this design of seal also offers the benefit of low assembly force leading to easier and faster installations.

Peak Ring

When the Peak ring is fitted to the pipe, the “flat” surface makes positioning much easier, avoids twisting and any inclination to roll backwards or forwards.

When the spigot is connected to the socket, the seal intentionally rolls and creates a broad contact area enabling an excellent joint to be formed.

2. Apply VIP UNIVERSAL PIPE LUBRICANT to the socket area liberally in particular to the chamfered leading edge. VIP UNIVERSAL PIPE LUBRICANT is non-toxic, bio degradable and has no adverse effects on the rubber seal.

3. Centre the ends of the pipe end push the socket into the spigot in accordance with the pipe manufacturer’s instructions.

PRECISION MOULDED FLANGE GASKETS – CORRUGASKET®

Flange Gaskets – Corrugasket®: For Quality, Security and Precision Our precision moulded flange gaskets with their unique corrugated surfaces, guaranteed to give you:

  • Dimensional accuracy

Each Corrugasket® is dimensionally accurate. Unlike cut or stamped gaskets, size and thickness do not vary since the gasket exactly reproduces the precise tolerances of the moulding tool.

  • Concentric corrugations

The concentric corrugations across the Corrugasket’s surface act as separate sealing planes to compensate for any defects in the flange, whether through corrosion, scores or even un-machined surfaces.

  • Consistent thickness (unlike stamped gaskets)

Cut or stamped gaskets are usually taken from calendared sheet material which by its very nature isn’t flat and so can lead to uneven force requirements when tightening. In its uncompressed state, the Corrugasket is 4mm thick. Optimum sealing efficiency is achieved at approximately 0.4mm compression or 3.6mm gasket thickness.

  • Maximum sealing efficiency with minimum compression.

The Corrugasket’s corrugated surface not only gives exceptional sealing efficiency, it also reduces significantly the bolt-torque required to achieve an effective and long-term seal. This in turn leads to reduced compression on the gasket and to the increased life of the complete flange assembly. Our unique multi drilling design means that Corrugaskets from 50mm to 300mm are suitable for a range of pressure classes. Sizes from 350mm upwards are suitable for PN16 and the simple but effective lugs retain the gasket in position whilst the bolts are being fitted.

A – Plain edge: Sizes up to 100mm

B – Scallop edge: Sizes 125mm to 300mm

C – Locator type: Sizes 350mm and 600mm

The gasket design is proven in terms of faster, easier fitting, longer life and the materials used have the full acceptance of the Water and Gas authorities to the latest specifications. Corrugaskets are streets ahead of cut or stamped gaskets at every level of performance and VIP’s 100% quality control give you the ultimate guarantee.

How to install the Corrugasket®

  1. Align flange so that top two bolt holes are positioned evenly, one on each side of central vertical axis of flange. If using Plain edge or Scallop edge Corrugaskets, put 2-3 bolts in place at bottom of flange to act as a prop for the Corrugasket.
  2. Lay the Corrugasket in place with bottom edge resting bolts. On Scallop edge Corrugaskets ensure that notches on gasket fit snugly around bolt holes. Match bore of Corrugasket to bore of flange.
  3. On Locator type Corrugasket only, insert two bolts into holes on upper half of flange. Loop the locators on Corrugasket over the bolts to position the gasket on the flange.
  4. Match opposite flange face to face with gasket and insert remaining bolts. Note all bolts should be inserted from the same side. Tighten bolts as normal, using a diametrical tightening sequence, maintaining the flanges parallel at all times.

NOTE: Due to the difference in dimensions for PN25 and PN40 flanges, Corrugaskets between 125mm and 300mm are located on the bolts using the plain outer edge and not the scallops.

Standards:

Manufactured from EPDM, Corrugasket® meet all EU Water specifications and when manufactured from Nitrile, meet the requirements of EN682:2002. The European Standard EN681-1 (Elastomeric seals – Material requirements for pipe joint seals used in water and drainage applications) sets the specification for elastomeric seals for joints in pipework and pipe-lines. Corrugasket® for Water applications not only meets the drainage and drinking water sections of this Standard, but in many areas exceeds the minimum requirement stipulated. For Gas applications, VIP-Polymers Nitrile compound gasket meets the requirement of BS EN682:2002 (Elastomeric seals – Materials requirements for seals used in pipes and fittings carrying gas and hydrocarbon fluids). In addition, Corrugasket® meet the following national and international standards:
